More Funding Committed for “Get Fit”

The Pottle Centre is pleased to announce that we will continue our Get Fit Program. We have received a huge donation from the Medical School at Memorial University of Newfoundland through their big gala event, “Monte Carlo Night”. The Get Fit program started in January 2015 through a grant from United Way of Newfoundland and Labrador. Since then we have also received a grant from The Wellness Coalition Avalon East as well.

This program is significant to our members because all sources of funding have contributed to all aspects of the Fit Program. The Fit Program provides our members an opportunity to take part in organized exercise. We provide transportation to a local gym, New World Fitness and we pay for admission fees. We also take part in private classes at various other gyms and studios including Yoga and swimming. We are able to provide a water bottle to each member as well as a lock. Upon returning to the centre, we provide a sports drink and something to eat as a refueling snack.

We heard from our members that they couldn’t afford to go to the gym because of membership costs. We also heard that some of them liked to work out but were left feeling very hungry after the session so feedback from our members has helped us to mould the program into what it is now.

This program is available to any member of the Pottle Centre. If you need more information on how to become a member, please contact the Pottle Centre by phone, 753-2143 or by email [email protected]
